FMC Employees Help “Stuff the Bus”
For children who live in homeless shelters, the challenges they face in attending school, studying and succeeding academically is beyond the comprehension of most Americans. Simply arriving at class with a bare minimum of school supplies is often beyond the reach of their families as they struggle to survive.
Recently, the Philadelphia United Way sought help from individuals and organizations to provide a new school bag and plenty of school supplies to children living in shelters in Philadelphia, Montgomery, Delaware and Chester counties in Pennsylvania. Eager to respond, FMC invited employees to participate, promising to match each dollar they contributed to the “Stuff the Bus” program.
As with every community service and humanitarian undertaking, FMC employees were quick to support the program, contributing $4,600 to purchase school supplies. In addition to the company’s matching contribution, FMC used its purchasing power and relationship with Staples to leverage the $9,200 donation to obtain more than $20,000 worth of school supplies – a 4 to 1 return for every dollar contributed by employees!
