“Women of Fiber” Creates Opportunities

When partners come together with a common desire to make dreams come true, amazing things can happen. That’s the notion behind a social responsibility network formed by FMC in cotton producing regions of Latin America. The network, “Women of Fiber,” sponsors community infrastructure improvement projects in the Cerrado region of Brazil, focusing on social work, education and health.

The women who spearhead this initiative are spouses of FMC Prima Class preferred clients, individuals with a special connection to the cotton industry in all Brazilian states that grow the crop. The project involves seven committees in these states whose work includes assessing the institutions that need improvements, proposing projects for consideration and coordinating project implementation from start to finish.  Such projects include construction of playrooms, dining halls, dormitories, leisure areas or any other specific need of the institution. Each project brings hope and strength to the communities in which the beneficiaries live.

FMC provides financial resources to facilitate the projects, as well as the transfer of knowledge, management know-how and volunteer work groups through its regional field staff. FMC also provides support and consulting to the various committees.

Introduced in 2004, the Women of Fiber committees presented 11 projects in its first year, six in 2005, seven in 2006 and another seven in 2007.

Maintaining the moral, ethical and law-abiding heritage that has been a cornerstone of FMC’s success for more than 120 years begins with a strong commitment from the Board of Directors.  Our directors bring integrity, successful business experience, stature in their own fields of endeavor, and diversity of perspective to FMC’s Board.  They have been selected based upon their ability to render careful, thoughtful, independent and logical judgments on difficult and complex issues, while being able to assimilate relevant information and arrive at firm conclusions quickly when circumstances require.

 

All but two of FMC’s directors – William G.
