Fighting Malaria, Improving Worker Conditions in Tanzania

Recently, FMC BioPolymer employees exceeded their year-long goal of collecting enough money to supply 1,000 mosquito nets to seaweed farmers in Tanzania.  Employee generosity, combined with a matching contribution from FMC, resulted in the purchase of more than 2,000 of the specially treated nets. 

These anti-malaria nets save lives by reducing the incidence of the disease for families who harvest seaweed to supply FMC’s carrageenan business.  FMC is also working closely with USAID to supply the same type of nets to other seaweed farmers.

FMC has taken a strong leadership role in other areas, too, to improve worker and family living conditions and provide expanded horizons for young people in the region.  FMC assisted in building a public water tank, water well and public toilets in Madagascar, and recently built a new school for the children of seaweed farmers.
