Sustainability
FMC is dedicated to operating in a manner that sustains the viability of natural systems that both present and future generations rely upon for life, health and enjoyment. Our environmental practices emphasize reduction of energy usage and waste generation by making continual improvements in the efficiency of our operations. And we source renewable and non-renewable materials in ways that conserve these resources for use by future generations.
FMC conducts its operations in ways that promote the long-term environmental, social and economic development of the nations and regions in which we operate. In developing countries, more than 100,000 people work in sustainable marine farming activities in order to ensure a stable supply of material for natural biopolymers.
FMC produces products that meet society’s current needs without compromising future generations’ ability to meet their needs. For example, FMC soda ash, a key component in glass making, is produced using the least-intensive energy processes available. FMC lithium products provide key materials for manufacturing batteries that extend the life of critical energy systems while being lightweight. FMC’s biopolymers, which are made from naturally occurring materials, are used in making pharmaceuticals that improve and extend quality of life. FMC’s agricultural products enhance the quality of the food supply and diminish the acreage and energy needed to produce food. Additionally, FMC’s peroxygens are extensively used in environmental applications, water treatment, and disinfectants.
