Enlisting Loved Ones to Encourage “7 Habits”

A four-year-old social and environmental responsibility program launched by FMC in Latin America has taken root and is spreading its branches. The educational initiative – known as “Working With Responsibility” – has relied on strong partnerships with universities, technical colleges, social committees, opinion leaders and others to foster the “7 Habits of Responsible Care.”  By the end of 2006, the program had reached nearly 150,000 people with information about the safe and proper use of chemical products.

“Working With Responsibility” reflects FMC’s values and environmental policy as it focuses on education to best protect the environment and ensure the safety of employees and communities. From the program’s outset, the company was aware that training and guiding farmers was not enough; it also needed an innovative way to raise awareness and transform behavior.

By simplying a potentially complex message, FMC Latin America has successfully implemented these best practices across the region. In addition, because this comprehensive educational campaign included farmers’ spouses and their children, the program has plenty of “overseers” to make sure that the “7 Habits” are part of every working day.

Community Relations

Throughout this “FMC Responsibility in Action” web site, you will find several short stories about the countless ways in which our manufacturing plants and operations personnel participate in and support local community initiatives.  In every instance, our employees are demonstrating their strong commitment – not merely as employees – but as caring and involved citizens, neighbors, friends and supporters of the communities and counties in which they live and work.

Their efforts and those of our entire corporation are not a requirement, but they do represent our shared values as a company.  Every FMC employee today who puts our responsibility in action is carrying out our time-treasured tradition of service and commitment.
